Graduate Commencement

KEY POINTS: 
Please read the Commencement web site in its entirety for detailed information, but here are some key points:

  • Doors to the RAC open at 9 a.m.
  • Procession begins at 9:50 a.m.
  • No tickets are required for the Graduate School Commencement ceremony.
  • Graduates’ personal belongings must be left with friends or family members as there is no secured location for items to be stored at the RAC.
  • Be prompt! Keep in mind that traffic in the Baltimore area may be congested. Please allow time to locate parking and to walk to the RAC.

 

UMBC’s 2015 Winter Graduate School Commencement will be held Wednesday, December 16, at 10 a.m., in the Retriever Activities Center (RAC) Arena. Commencement procession begins promptly at 9:50 a.m. In observance of the National Anthem, guests will not be seated while the anthem is performed. When the doors reopen following the singing of the National Anthem, guests will be seated as space permits.

All graduates participating in the Commencement ceremony MUST wear the academic regalia that can only be ordered from the UMBC Bookstore Graduation Center. Candidates are prohibited from wearing a borrowed cap or gown from an alumnus/a or another student – no exceptions.

The dates for ordering regalia at the Bookstore Graduation Center are Monday, September 28, and Tuesday, September 29, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Wednesday, September 30, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Regalia can also be ordered online through Monday,October 19. The cost to rent graduate regalia is $83.99 for master’s students and $175.99 for doctoral students. Beginning October 1, candidates who order regalia will be assessed a $25 expedited shipping fee. All forms of payment usually accepted in the Bookstore are allowed.

The Bookstore will not be responsible for regalia unclaimed by Tuesday, December 8, the last day of classes.
